Who We Serve

The Libertytown Unionville Lions Club is proud to serve those in our community and people throughout the world. Presented below is a summary of our service activities since our founding in 1949:

  • Scholarships –since 1964 over $55,000 in scholarships have been awarded to students of our community.
  • The Libertytown Area Sports Association (LASA, formerly Libertytown Recreation Council) has received financial help and their electric scoreboard from the club. 
  • Medical Equipment is available for loan to local citizens including hospital beds, walkers, canes, commodes and wheelchairs.   
  • Poinsettias are delivered to sick and elderly members of the community at Christmas – between 40 to 50 each year 
  • Libertytown Volunteer Fire Department receives financial assistance each year. The land the fire department occupies was given to them by the Libertytown Unionville Lions Club in 1965.
  • Liberty Elementary School – We support programs financially not covered by state or county funding.  Students are invited to participate in the Lions Clubs American Heritage Essay Contest. 
  • The Libertytown Food Bank – a direct service of the St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.
  • Eye glasses and exams. The club maintains a relationship with an Ophthalmologist and an oculist where community members are sent after reviewing their qualifications for receiving vision service help.
  • The Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) – a fund from which grants are made to Lions clubs for needs in their community beyond their ability to support as well as major catastrophes throughout the world.  
  • Lions Vision Research Foundation (LVRF) – a foundation of Multiple District 22 established in 1991 concentrating on clinical, research and training in low vision located at the Wilmer Eye Clinic of the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions.
  • Lions Youth Foundation (LYF) – a foundation of Multiple District 22 provides grants to Lions Clubs for use in youth related projects. 
  • Lions Leader Dog Program  – This Lions organization located in Michigan trains and supplies leader dogs at no cost to the unsighted recipient.
  • Vision Screening is provided to Pre-School Children.
  • Boy Scout Troop 1062 located in Libertytown was supported financially and is now disbanded.
  • Frederick County Hospice – many community members have benefited from this very special service organization.
  • The Medical Eye Bank of Maryland established by Lions of Multiple District 22 collected, stored and distributed eye corneas.  This service is now performed by a commercial medical organization

Bringing kind-hearted people together to serve their communities is what Lions clubs are all about. Lions see a problem and then take action to solve it. Lions build relationships with their communities, with one another and with the people they serve. And as a result, everyone’s life is improved.

Chances are you have heard about the Lions Club…. But what exactly do we do in the Libertytown Unionville Community? Join us at Liberty Road Seafood and Steak for meal and get to know your community Lions.

Sept. 13 – 21st, 2024 Great Frederick Fair

Come join us at the annual Great Frederick Fair for delicious Lions Club pizza & funnel cakes, and help support our fundraising in the community!  Our hours are typically 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. most days, with occasional extended hours based on Fair events.
